The Skunk

In this scene the bunny tries to make freinds with her and she is so offended by his teeth she smacks him in the FACE!
OH BOY!This character is based of a salt and pepper shaker I got at a Halifax flea market.

Fantastic, Jessica, I love how solid your characters are, thanks for including sketches, its interesting to see how you build up your work.

This reminds me of a very good Tex Avery short "Little 'Tinker" about a love longing skunk who keeps being rejected because of his smell.

Wow, these are looking great! Some drawings look like you're inking with flash's pencil (like some of the foxes) and some stuff looks like flash's paintbrush. Which is it?

Also, looks like you're doing all your keys. Do you break the keys down into puppets, and do your inbetweens from there? Or would you just draw them straight in Flash or what?

I'm really curious to your workflow. It's really successful!

hey.
Thanks for your comments!
So what I do is draw thw characters first on paper.
Then I clean it up. Break the character up in symbols.
Then from the first pose I create the others from.

Halifax!? Nova Scotia is awesome! I'm a Nova Scotian living in this jolly land of Ontario.

That skunk is so cute and pretty for a little stinker. Lovely work, can't wait to see this thing finished! =)

could you talk more about your clean up process? 'couse it is really awsome.
do you ink it and then vectorice it? what softwares do you use?
and sorry for my ignorance but what does brake the character in simbols mean?
thanks!

Hey.I ink it all in flash with the brush tool.
I only use Flash and Photoshop.Breaking up the symbols is something we use in flash. You group body parts into symbols.

Jessica,

I'm a great admirer of your Pandas film (I voted for you in the Frederator contest !) and I am eagerly looking forward to the Bunny with the bad teeth film .

Your animation moves really well, so I'm wondering how fully do you inbetween it when you're still working on paper, before taking it into Flash for final clean up and painting ?

You mention breaking it up into symbols after inking it in Flash, but a lot of the animation in Pandas looked like full animation , not like what I typically think of as symbolized/"tweened" animation (but maybe that's just my ignorance showing) ... you should consider writing a tutorial on using Flash to do full cartoon animation because I think your stuff is some of the best I've seen.

Hey dtn
Thanks alot for nice comments! I see by your blog you like bunnies too!! They are great!
Panda's was all symbol animation. I do redraw alot of different drawings with a ssymbol.
an example,,
I created an arm symbol then I would draw many arms within it. I hate the way flash animation looks. I try to stray from it as much as possible. A good way to stray from that look is NO TWEENING EVER EVER!!!!
As long as every pose you create is beautiful, and instead off tweening you actually animate between the poses it will look like traditional anim.

Thanks for the tips on making animation in Flash look good, Jess.

My animation/drawing software of choice is TVPaint (aka "Mirage") , but it's bitmap based , not vector. I know the advantage to vector is the smaller file sizes, among other things and I realize I've got to learn Flash, because that seems like what everyone asks for now. It's just like you say , I hate most Flash animation I see , but if I could learn to use it like you do I'd be happy.
